It is not a new thing that PayPal account doesn't work in Nigeria for sending and receiving funds. This is due to the new CBN policy which disallow Nigerians to use a Naira card to make payment online via PayPal.

We all know how frustrating  it is when you try to link your card with the PayPal account and it keeps on getting declined but don't panic anymore, we are here to teach you how to open PayPal account in Nigeria to make payment and receive funds from any part of the world.

All you need to open PayPal account in Nigeria
  • A valid email address. 
  • UBA or the Wema Alat Mastercard (they work perfectly till date) 
  • Legal means of identification like NIN or Passport number.

How to open PayPal account in Nigeria 
  • Visit the most feasible country PayPal you want yours to be domiciled. For South Africa it’s www.paypal.co.za, for US it’s www.paypal.com/us, and for Lesotho it’s www.paypal.com/ls. (I would recommend that you go for that of Lesotho, www.paypal.com/ls) 
  • Then click on signup. 
  • Enter your email address
  • Afterwards, type in your password and make sure it is one you can remember
  • On the next page, type other details such as names, date of birth, address and phone number.
  • Also when filling in your address make sure that it matches the same address details you filled when you opened a bank account (The Lesotho you used earlier is just for registering and doesn't mean you will have to choose Lesotho as your address) 
  • It takes you to a page where you fill in your debit card details
  • Input your UBA or Wema Alat card details (card no, expiry date and the last 3 digits behind your debit card).
  • Then go to your email account and click on verify. 
  • Your account is now created. 
How to receive PayPal payment in Nigeria 
  • Visit the most feasible country PayPal you want yours to be domiciled. For South Africa it’s www.paypal.co.za, for US it’s www.paypal.com/us, and for Lesotho it’s www.paypal.com/ls. (I would recommend that you go for that of Lesotho, www.paypal.com/ls) 
  • Next, sign up for the business account, enter your email address and password, and fill in your business and personal details. For the business details, choose individual business and then you would be required to input your legal ID (NIN or Passport number). And for the personal details, please use the details as they appears in your bank. 
  • Go to yellow pages of Lesotho to get pseudo credentials, while you use it alongside your real credentials in the personal details area.
  • Verify your email and lift your PayPal limit with a credit card (You can use UBA or Wema ALAT card, as they are working uptill date). 
  • And finally, test your account by sending some funds to activate the account. You can get PayPal funds from freelancers and your account is set.
